IMUCET- Exam Pattern and Application Procedure

Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test or IMUCET is conducted by Indian Maritime University to select eligible candidates for the Diploma in Nautical Science course. After completing the course, aspirant can pursue B.Sc in Nautical Science from IMU or affiliated colleges.  IMUCET covers questions from English, Reasoning Aptitude, Physics, etc. Applications for IMUCET must be submitted through offline method. After paying the requested application fee, completed application forms must be sent to the address of the Controller of Examinations, IMU.

Exam Pattern of IMU CET

The Exam is carried out as an objective model test with multiple choice questions. Total number of questions for the test is 180. Total time allotted for the completion of IMUCET is 3 hours. Exam syllabus is based on the topics covered in class 12th. One can expect questions from the following six subjects.

  • English
  • General Knowledge
  • Reasoning Aptitude
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

There will be 30 questions from each of these subjects. Sets and Relations, Trigonometry, Complex Numbers, Calculus, Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, etc are the main topics included under mathematics paper. Atoms, molecules, electromagnetic induction, optics, etc are some of the topics included under Physics paper. In chemistry section, one can expect questions from Atomic Structure, Chemical equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Nuclear Chemistry, etc.

English section includes questions which check the vocabulary and grammatical skills of the candidate. In reasoning section, one can expect simple questions from areas of Verbal and logical reasoning. GK section assesses the awareness of candidate about topics like common places, important persons, current affairs, etc.

Application Procedure of IMU CET

Application forms for CET can be downloaded from the official website of IMU, www.imu.tn.nic.in. Downloaded application must be filled up with exact details. Before sending the filled up application, candidate should pay application fee for attending the entrance test. Application fee amounts to Rs.800/- for candidates belonging to general and OBC category. Aspirants belonging to reserved category need to pay Rs. 450/- only.

Fee payment can be made via the payment challan obtained from IMU website. There is provision to pay the fee amount through any of the branches of the following banks .

  • State Bank of India
  • Indian Bank
  • Axis Bank

Completed applications along with relevant documents must be submitted to the address of ’Controller of Examinations’, Indian Maritime University. Documents like proof of fee payment challan, journal number, caste certificate, etc must be sent along with the application. Caste Certificate is required for SC/ST candidates only.
