Indian Statistical Institute conducts JRF in Sociology Entrance Exam annually with the objective of selecting eligible students for the Junior Research Fellowship program in Sociology being offered at the institute. The selected ones will be given a stipend of Rs.12000/-. This will be offered per month.

Structure of Indian Statistical Institute JRF in Sociology Entrance Exam

This test will have 2 papers. One of these papers will be an objective type model. There are multiple choices given for each question. There will be 60 questions for this test. The second one will contain descriptive format questions. The questions of this test will be mainly included from the subject itself. The students have to be clear with all the core areas included in the subject in order to qualify in this exam.

Syllabus of Indian Statistical Institute JRF in Sociology Entrance Exam

Part A

  • Problems of socio-economic development in India
  • Sources of basic statistical information on the Indian economy and society
  • Basic literature on agrarian economy and society in India

Part B

  • Comparative development and social transformation: agrarian relations
  • Social network approach
  • Social movements: historical and contemporary dimensions
  • Decentralization of planning
  • Gender studies
  • Religious and ethnic problems

Eligibility Criteria

The students must have earned a Master’s degree in Sociology from Indian Statistical Institute or from any of the recognized universities in order to attend this exam.

The aspirants need to score at least 55% marks in the concerned graduation program.

However there will be a relaxation for the reserved category students in the minimum requirements needed to attend this exam.

How to apply?

The application form and also the prospectus of the test can be accessed from any of the offices of the Indian Statistical Institute by post or else in person. They need to pay a fee of Rs. 500/- in cash to obtain this application form. The reserved category students need to pay Rs.250/- or else they have to take a DD in favor of “Indian Statistical Institute” that is payable at Kolkata. The students must send this completely filled up application form and also the relevant data to Indian Statistical Institute, 203 B. T. Road, Kolkata – 700 108 on or before the last date as mentioned.

How to fill the Form?

The students must be cautious while filling up the form so that no mistakes are encountered. All the information entered in the form must be relevant. The students must be very careful while entering the personal details and also the qualification details. The signature of the students and also their photograph should be placed correctly in the right blocks.

The preparation for this test must be started at least 3 to 4 months before this test. First of all the entire syllabus of the exam must be analyzed and a very good plan based on that must be set up.
