North Eastern Hill University was established in the year 1973 on the 19th of July. Initially, the university was offering education through affiliated colleges in the state of Meghalaya and Nagaland, the union territories of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. However, after the formation of Nagaland University, the colleges in Nagaland were handed over to Nagaland University. In addition to offering education through its main campus in Shillong, the university also has another campus at Tura and some of the courses are offered through this campus as well. With the guidelines issued from the University Grants Commission, an Internal Quality Assurance Cell is functioning under the university to ensure quality education to the students with assistance from the UGC.
