Statistics is a mathematical science which is concerned with the collection, analysis, research and presentation of data. Statistics is a branch that is related to a variety of human activities like industry, health, finance, politics, economics etc. The curriculum of the master’s in statistics program is concerned with the preparation of graduates for employment in the statistical position in the business or industry.
Eligibility:
Master’s course in statistics is offered to the candidate having a bachelor’s degree. The candidate must be a student of either statistics or mathematics in the graduation studies. The candidate with a diploma in statistics or mathematics can also apply for the master’s course in statistics. The admission to this course is merit based and is generally on the basis of entrance test or marks secured by the candidate in the graduation exam.
Course Outlook:
This course offers advanced training in the methods and application of Statistics. Specialized training is given in selected areas of Statistics. The course is of two year duration. Master’s course in statistics is offered in two streams namely S-Stream and M-Stream. S-Stream is designed for those students who have completed the Bachelor’s course in statistics while, M-Stream is designed for those who don’t have basic knowledge in statistics.
Job prospects:
A candidate who has completed the master’s course in statistics can work in a wide variety of domains ranging from medical sciences including public health, pharmacy etc. to natural sciences and human sciences.
