Panjab University was incorporated in the year 1882 under the Government of Punjab. Initially the university was established at Lahore and it was relocated at Chandigarh in the year 1956. The sandstone campus of the university is designed by renowened French Architects. The campus of the university is spreaded in an area of approximately 550 acres. The university is considered as one of the oldest univeristy present in the country. There are around 60 teaching and research departments in the universirt. Dr. R.c. Sobti is the vice chancellor of the university.
