Recruitment Process for Sub-Inspector (Pioneer)/Head Constable (Workshop) in SSB

Sashastra Seema Bal has invited applications for the profiles of Sub-Inspector (Pioneer)/Head Constable (Workshop). Recruitment of candidates to these job profiles are proposed to be made through a six stage process (as per the notification). Document verification, physical standard test, physical efficiency test, written examination, technical test, and medical examination are the main stages included under the recruitment process.

Document Verification

First step of the recruitment process is document verification. Important documents as well as admit card are verified during the process. Candidate must reach the venue for recruitment with original documents proving educational qualifications, age, technical qualifications, and caste/category. These documents will be returned to the candidate after verification. Apart from original documents, candidates should bring attested copies of documents along with two pass port size photographs.

Physical Standard Test

Those who pass document verification will be subjected for physical standards test. Here the height, weight, and eye sight of the candidate is verified to confirm whether it meets with prescribed standards.

Physical Efficiency Test

Physical Efficiency Test is conducted through certain events like running race and long jump. This is of qualifying nature and separate test are conducted for male and female candidates.

For Sub-Inspector (Pioneer)/Head Constable (Workshop) — Male Candidates

  • 100 Meters Race
  • 800 Meters Race
  • High Jump - 3 Feet 6 Inches
  • Long Jump - 11 Feet

The 100 meters and 800 meters race must be completed within 16 seconds and 4 minutes respectively. Also, at most three chances will be given for high jump and long jumps.

For Sub-Inspector (Pioneer) — Female Candidates

  • 100 Meters Race
  • 800 Meters Race
  • High Jump — 3 Feet
  • Long Jump – 9 feet

Here, the 100 meters and 800 meters race must be completed within 20 seconds and 5 minutes respectively. Number of chances given for high jumps and long jumps are quite the same.

Written Examination

They who qualify the previous levels of selection process can attend the written test. The test is conducted for 100 marks and must be completed with duration of 2 hours. Syllabus for the written test is as follows.

  • General English/ Hindi
  • General Knowledge
  • Question on Civil Engineering (For Sub-Inspector (Pioneer) only)
  • Question on automobile/ Mechanical Engineering (For Head Constable (Workshop) only)

Sections of General English/ Hindi and General Knowledge are common for both the posts. Marks allotted for each of these sections is 50. Section of Civil Engineering/ automobile/ Mechanical Engineering carry 50 marks. For Sub-Inspector (Pioneer), the minimum qualifying marks is 50% and that for Head Constable (Workshop) is 40%.

Technical Test

Those who qualify the written test will be shortlisted for technical test. This session includes viva voce questions as well as practical test in the concerned technical subject.

For Sub-Inspector (Pioneer)

  • Viva- voce –10 Marks
  • Practical Test — 40 Marks

For Head Constable (Workshop)

  • Viva- voce– 25 Marks
  • Practical Test –25 Marks

This section is of qualifying nature and a minimum of 35% marks is required to qualify.

Medical Examination

Final stage of recruitment is medical examination. Medical fitness of the candidate is checked on the basis of prescribed standards. Those who qualify this level will be confirmed with selection.
