Institute profile: NIO was established in the year 1966. It has a main centre in Goa and its regional centres in Kochi, Mumbai and Vishakhapatnam. It has achieved growth and has become an internationally reputed oceanographic institute. It has about 200 scientist and 100 technical staff persons indulged in research and development work.

Job profile: The scientists will be responsible for carrying out research and development work in the field of oceanography. They are also required to identify and solve problems. They will be required to lead a team of professional for the development of new proposals.

Eligibility: A candidate applying for the post of scientist in grade IV (1 or 2) may not exceed the age of 3 years and a candidate applying for the post of scientist in grade IV (3) must not exceed the age of 40 years. However, relaxation can be claimed.

Educational qualifications: For scientists in grade IV (1) – A candidate must have a Master’s or B.TECH/B.E or M.Sc degree in relevant field. Foe scientists in grade IV (2) – A candidate must be a PhD after a first class B.TECH/B.E with a minimum of 1 year experience. For scientists in grade IV (3) – A candidate must be a PhD in the relevant field with a minimum of 4 years experience.

No. of posts: There are 2 posts for scientists in grade IV (1) including one post for ST and one for PH. There are 12 posts for scientists in grade IV (2) and 2 in grade IV (3).

Pay scale: For a scientist in grade IV (1) the pay scale would be Rs15600-39100 plus a grade pay of Rs5400. The pay scale for the scientists in grade IV (2) and (3) is same but scientists in grade IV (2) will be given a grade pay of Rs6600 and scientists in grade IV (3) will be given a grade pay of Rs7600.

Selection procedure: The candidates will have to undergo an interview. The selections will be made on the basis of the qualifications, experience and performance of an individual during the interview.

The candidates are required to send the print out of the application along with the copies of the certificates. The candidates are also required to pay a fee of Rs100 in the form of a DD drawn in the favor of Director, NIO, Goa payable at Panaji.
