Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar was released in the year 2008 under Government of India. The institute came into existence as a public education and research institute. The institute is also referred to as Indian Institute of Technology Punjab. The institute is one of the eight new IITs. The institute was set up the inistry of Human Resources Development. Mr. B. K. Dhindaw is the current Dean of the institute while Mr. M. K. Surrapa is the Director. The campus of the institute is spreaded in an area of approximately 520 acres.
