Lab Technician - How to become a Lab Technician?
Medical laboratory Technology is an inevitable area in the medical field. There are various courses diploma, bachelors’ and other programmes offered in MLT. In order to become a lab technician, the candidate is required to do any of the courses in Lab Technology. Many colleges, Universities and even hospitals offer various programmes in the field. Their work profile mainly includes testing various samples for detecting the viruses, cancerous cells, blood count, etc. With the help of a lab technician only, the doctors can make final assumptions on treatment.
Qualifying Exam
The candidates who wish to work as a lab technician need to complete the lab technician courses. One who wants to do graduation in MLT can opt for the BMLT programme, which is of 3-year duration. There are also diploma courses like DMLT of 2-year duration and even certificate courses in the concerned field.
Who is eligible to apply?
The eligibility to apply for the courses in MLT is a pass in 10+2 examination. The candidate is required to pass the exam from Science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. It should be from a Certified University or Board. Candidates having equivalency Certificate are also considered eligible. Those who have passed the Pre- University Vocational programme with laboratory Technology can also apply for the course.
How to prepare for exam and interview?
The candidates can obtain the application forms from the respective institutions providing the course. The filled in forms are required to be submitted to the institutions or colleges applied before the last date. The applicants should be well versed in the science subjects in 10+2 level. The candidates who complete the course can seek jobs in Government as well as Private hospitals and laboratories. The lab technicians are paid excellent remuneration in India and abroad. Through experience and involvement in research programmes, they can further become lab technologists.
