Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University came into existence in the year 1996 and it is a central university located in the city of Lucknow in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The university was given this name in honor of the Chief Architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. Babasahed Bhimrao Ambedkar. The university is functioning with the objective of offering higher standards of research and instructional facilities. It is a residential university with its jurisdiction spread over the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University has different schools like school for management studies, school for physical sciences, school for home science, school of environmental sciences, school of legal studies, school of Ambedkar Studies, School of Bio-Science & Bio-Technology and School of Information Science & Technology. Each of these schools have at least one department and maximum four departments under its control to offer courses in different subjects. The university offers non-traditional and innovative courses at the Post Graduation level.
