Assam University was established in the year 1994 at Silchar, Assam. Professor M. S. Swaminathan is the Chancellor of the university while professor Tapodhir Bhattacharya is the Vice Chancellor. The campus of the university is spreaded in an area of 600 acres. The university is comprises of nine schools and there are 29 departments under these nine schools. The courses offered by all theses nine schools includes Social Sciences, Humanities, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Information Sciences etc.
