The Government Engineering College is a premier technical college which started its journey in 2000. The College has the recognition and approval from the All India Council for Technical education. It started functioning at Painavu in the Government buildings renovated for the purpose. The college mainly aims towards the enhancement of the quality of education in this institute. The students have to secure high marks in the qualifying exams.

The Government Engineering College is situated in a sprawling area of 25 acres in Idukki and has very good campus facility for its students. Candidates who are willing to take admission in the various B.Tech courses in different streams have to appear for the entrance exam. The candidates have to pass higher secondary exams from a recognized university of India. The candidates have to score good marks in the qualifying exams.
