Civil Services are considered to be one of the most prestigious services of our country. The exam of civil services is conducted by UPSC every year. The exam has two stages- the prelims and the mains. Students have to choose optional subjects for giving the examination. Physics is one of the subjects. Those who have studied physics at the graduate level and at the postgraduate level can take up it as their optional subject. It should be kept in mind that this exam is considered to be the toughest exam of the country, so the students should logically choose the optional subjects and should prepare accordingly. The pattern of the main exam is given below.

Paper Pattern

The exam is of duration of three hours and the maximum marks are 300. The questions are all conventional type ones. The question paper is printed in both Hindi and English. Students have to answer only in the language which they specify in their form. The question paper is divided into two sections. There are eight questions in the paper. Students have to answer any five. However, question numbers 1 and 5 are compulsory. Each question carries 60 marks. The questions can have smaller sub questions so that the 60 marks are divided into the sub questions.
