The Indian Forest Services exam selection process comprises of a written test and a general interview for those candidates who have passed the written test. There are two kinds of exam one is called the Prelims exam and the final one is called the Main Exam The total number of marks for the Main exam is 1400 of which each optional paper is 200 marks and the interview is of 300 marks. If you are opting for civil engineering as an optional paper, you cannot take any other type of engineering as your second option. The scope of the syllabus for engineering subjects correspond the bachelors’ degree.

However in the prelims exam, there will be two papers with objective type questions forming the aggregate of 450 marks with general studies comprising of 150 marks and any one optional paper comprising of 300 marks.

For papers 3,4,5,6 any two of the optional subjects can be chosen. Civil Engineering is one such option available to the candidates. The paper itself is divided into two parts. Part A of the paper has topics such as engineering mechanics, strength of materials and structural analysis. Part B broadly comprises of topics related to or dealing with design of Structures: Steel, Concrete and Masonry Structures.
