Geology is a division of science that is concerned with the study on earth, its history and environment. Individuals who practice this science are called as Geologists. There are numerous institutions in India that offers postgraduate courses in geology. It is also possible for candidates to go for research in Geology. The selection of students into this course is done through an entrance exam. It is compulsory for every aspirant to appear and pass in this exam to get admission.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who want to join the PG course should be graduates in the relevant subject. Those who aspire to go for the research must have a pass in their Master’s course in geology. They must have a score of minimum 55% marks.
Career Prospects
Candidates who have finished their course can find jobs in fields like Petrology as well as Paleontology and environmental protection. Jobs can also be found in areas like Geophysics in addition to Field Study and Research. Many private firms like the Geological Survey of India and others also hire geologists. Candidates who are interested in teaching can find posts as lecturers in colleges. A PhD is necessary to get lecturer jobs. The initial salary of the candidates will be as much as Rs. 15000/- - Rs. 25000/- a month. The remuneration of the candidates is based on their proficiency, experience and skill in the particular area. With more familiarity in the subject, the candidates will be able to earn more.
