Examination of Geology II paper is conducted by UPSC every year in the month of November to recruit candidates in the post of grade IV officers in the department of geological survey of India and central ground water board. Paper is geld in 2 categories.

Qualification for appearing in this exam:

Candidates who are applying for the examination must be a citizen of India. Minimum educational qualification is post-graduation in geology/applied geology/marine geology/mineral exploration/hydrogeology from a recognised University or diploma of Associate-ship in applied geology of ISM, Dhanbad. Age limitation for the candidates applying for the paper is 21-32 years; however there is relaxation in these criteria for SC/ST candidates.

Scoring and Negative Marking:

Questions asked in the paper are of subjective type, each question is divided into 6 sections and questions asked are of same pattern. There is no penalty for wrong answers.

Mode of Exam:

Paper is of long answer type questions which are required to be answered by students in conventional way in their answer sheet.

Format:

Paper is a subjective paper and these questions are kept in 6 sections.

Paper Pattern:

Paper of Geology II consists of 6 questions in it and these questions are kept in 6 sections. Section A is of 10 short notes, there is no alternative for this question. Rest sections contain questions which are of equal marks which are equipped with internal alternative. Most questions are of short notes and questions are divided into 4-5 sub-questions.

Marking:

Total marks in the paper are 200 and each question from the section is of 30 marks except question no. 1 which is of 50 marks. Paper is checked manually.

Schedule:

The paper is allotted with 3 hours.
