Guru Nanak Dev University was established on November 24, 1969 under the Guru Nanak Dev University Act 1969. The University has about 37 academic departments, two regional centers, two colleges, a support service department, and several administrative offices. The university directs and monitors the academic programmes of more than 100 colleges situated in the 5 districts of Amritsar, Nawanshehar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, and Gurdaspur.  Almost all the Departments of the University are equipped with independent computer facilities, internet connectivity and departmental libraries.
