Guru Nanak Dev University came into existence in the year 1969 on the 24th of November. The University is established as a way of honoring the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev. The University is located at Amritsar. The University aims at providing education and promoting research in the fields of humanities, sciences, applied nature and technology. The University also aims in the promotion of Punjabi language and in the spreading of education among educationally backward classes and communities. The university admits students to courses of all levels strictly on the basis of National, State and University level entrance tests. The University has been awarded Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy 17 times and inter-versity youth festival championship four times consecutively. The University is also granted the Five Star Level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
