IFS stand for Indian forest Service. It lies under the curriculum of the Indian civil services and hence the responsibility of the selection of the candidates is also quite high.

The curriculum:

The total marks of the written examination are 1400. These 1400 marks are divided in to several papers. The format is:

1. Paper I is the general English which is of 300 marks.

2. Paper II is the General Knowledge of 300 marks.

3. Papers III, IV, V, and VI are of 200 marks each and are of the choice of the candidates.

Amongst the various choices, Mechanical engineering is quite prominent amongst the students.

Pattern of the paper:

The IFS Mechanical Engineering (Paper I) Papers has all together 8 questions. The total marks of the paper are 200 and each question is of 40 marks each. The time allotted to answer the questions is 3 hours. The question is mandatory to be answered in English. The paper is divided in to 2 section with 4 questions in section A and section B. Out of the 8 given questions, the candidates are suppose to answer only 5. These five should include question number 1 and 5 and 1 question from each section. The questions are also provided with internal choices for the convenience of the candidates.

Medium of Questions and answers:

The question paper has questions printed in English language only. The answers of the candidates are also supposed to be in English only.
