Every year the IIMs have managed to grab the attention of the masses with its striking pay packages presented to the students. Indian Institute of Management is a foremost brand name in the area of business education. In India the main IIMs include the IIM-A, IIM-B, IIM-C, IIM-I, IIM-L and IIM-K. Each and every one of these Management institutions has established a vigorous placement committee which carries out the entire recruitment process systematically. The students of IIM’s are getting placed in to the top most MNC’s with huge pay packages.

Placement Procedures at IIM’s

All the IIM’s have their own placement procedures which is controlled and overlooked by the respective placement committees. Most of the time, the IIM’s will sent invitation to selected companies in order to participate in the campus placement process. If any of these companies are willing to participate, they will have to fill up a confirmation form as to validate their presence in the recruitment process. Certain companies even sent entire details of job and the positions to which candidates will be taken in.  This will help the students to send their resumes to the desired companies and jobs.

The placement process carried out by most of the companies includes a pre- final assessment. This will include a written test, group discussion along with aptitude tests and a preliminary interview process. Only the candidates who have cleared each of these processes are selected to go through the final interview process.

IIM-Calcutta Placement 2011

The IIM-C is very famous as one of the finance campus out of all the IIM’s. This campus gets the largest number of recruitment offers from the finance sector alone. At present it has reached up to 31.3 percent. Another major recruiter in the IIM-C is from the marketing sector.

Some of the companies of international standards which have take part in the placement process of IIM-C include Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank and Bank of America etc. At present already got the pre-placement offers from companies like Morgan Stanley, Royal Bank of Scotland. In the 2010-2011 IIM-C has also been visited by Japanese Investment Bank. The IIM-C has also been visited by Daiwa Securities and around six of IIM-C students were extended offer of placement by both these companies.

Every single one of the 383 students who take part in the placement process had lucratively received job offers so far. The students who have substantial work-experience have received lateral placements in senior positions. The increase of such placement is up to 57.6%. Last year such offer was up to 92 last year and in 2011 this has increased to 145. This year, 50 additional firms had taken part in the lateral placement process. The IIM-C have introduced a deferred placement process this year for the students who want to venture in to entrepreneurship, social work and also to join the Government institution which is involved in the National service.

The IIM-K this year has placed around 290 students in around 120 firms. The average salary compared to last year for the IIM-K students has increased up to 30 %. The number of job offers for every company has also amplified by 30 %. The largest recruiters so far in the IIM-K are Deloitte and ICICI Bank. These companies have each made more than 16 offers this year. In IIM-K the highest international company offering a pay scale up to $ 1,50,000 was by a commodity trading company. While, the domestic company offering the highest pay package was an Investment banking company.

The companies who participated in the recruitment process of IIM-K this year include Bank of American, , Goldman Sachs, HSBC, CITI etc in the banking and finance sector.  P&G, ITC, Marico, Britannia, Kellogg’s and Palmolive were the companies from the FMCG sector.  TCS, Wipro, IBM, Mindtree, Cap-gemini, etc also participated in the IIM- K placement routine.  The Placement process in IIM Kozhikode comes together very systematically as to endow an opportunity to the students to get the right job.

The IIM- I have seen around 100 companies visiting the institution this year for the placement process. The average salary received by the students in the IIM-I was around Rs.14.06 lakh. Around eight students from the 2009-2011 batch received a salary offer of Rs. 32 lakh each. The companies visited in the IIM-I included Investment Bank’s, Consulting firms, FMCG companies along with education, health care and also power sector.

The finance option has taken a dive this year at IIM-I. Only 28% of students received finance roles as compared to last year’s 40%. Out of the 240 students in the current batch, only 74 students had been hired through laterals and around 30 students got per-placement offers. Two students decide on out of the placement process and joined fellowship and to start an education venture. This year 28 of the IIM-I students got a pay package over Rs.20 lakh.  Out of this, around 8 students got more than Rs 32 lakh in the domestic investment banking sector.

IIM Bangalore Placements 2011

In the IIM-B the institute has carried out the placement of the entire batch of 375 students. The institution has raised its batch size from 348 students to 375 in the 2009-2011.  Even though this was the largest batch which has gone through the placement process so far, the entire placement process was smoother and faster this academic year.  IIM-B had received confirmation by over 180 companies to participate in the placement process only 127 companies turned out in the actual process. Almost 1/3rd of the batch was recruited in the opening day session itself. Compared to last year, each company has increased the number of offers up to 26% more this year.

In 2011 the IIM-B had hosted campus placement form leading MNC’s like BCG, McKinsey and AT Kearney from the consulting sector. The IIM-B also had Investment banking companies like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, RBS, Nomura and Standard Chartered etc.

The main sector opted by the IIM-B 2011 batch was of Finance and Consulting. There were also equally large number of students who have opted for other sectors like FMCG and few others. Seven students out of the entire batch also opted to pursue entrepreneurship.

IIM Lucknow Placement 2011

This year also the IIM-L carried out its campus placement with 100 % success. The institution has receives a total job offer of 528 for the existing batch of 366. Out of the campus placement there were 70 of the pre-placement at IIM-L and almost 213 students got lateral offers. The placement week was also quite a success with 245 getting placement offers.

In the IIM-L a total of 206 companies visited and contributed in the campus placement process. Some of the key recruiters included Accenture, Cap-Gemini, Citibank, Kraft Foods, Cadbury, Deloitte, Deutsche Bank, E & Y, HUL, ITC, P&G, BCG etc. The key sectors which carried out placement in the IIM-L included Consulting, Finance, Sales and Marketing, IT and Telecom industry.

Major Recruiters at IIMs

The companies which carry out the recruitment process in the IIM’s are mostly from the sectors like sales or marketing, banking or finance, IT, FMCG etc. The students from the IIM’s will get a chance to get recruited in inbound or even foreign companies. Some of the leading companies include Ernst & Young, HP, ICICI venture, Microsoft, Wipro, Google, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank etc. Some of the companies in the FMCG include HUL, ITC, P&G, P&G, Marico, Britannia, Kellogg’s and Palmolive etc
