B- School Placements: Hitting the Right one!

The education sector in India has been undergoing tremendous changes during last few years. The numbers of B- schools which have come in to existence have increased rapidly. The most tedious task is to find the most suitable B-school. The most important aspect that matters is finding out an appropriate B- school from whole of the rankings according to ones interest.

While selecting a B-school there are several factors which should be taken in to consideration. One need to decide whether a particular school will provide him with all the facilities which he /she is needed to make his dream a realization. The environment of the school is that which matters the most foremost as this helps the student to mould themselves in to a good personality.

As soon as campus placement season comes in the B- School students are thrilled with the fact they are going to get an opportunity in participating in the selection procedures of different B-schools in particular. May be in that case everyone will be under the objective of getting in the right school which can enhance their personality to a certain extent.

The whole process of campus recruitment in a sense is a tedious task to get through all the rounds of interview for a particular company. At times the students who are studying in top tier B schools will be offered more than one position too. As the grading parameters stands out, most of the companies offer to students mainly sales jobs which may be commission basis. The point is how a student will choose and decide whether the job that has been offered will do some good for him/her on long term basis.

Is Student Aspiration – A Real problem?

In the current scenario the compensation package offered to the students will be in crore figures hence the student aspirations are also very high in this regard. Some of the experts in the education field are about the view that students are looking down upon those jobs which are in lakhs figures. This may gives us an idea that how singular focused are the students mainly on the package. Most of them are in a hurry to get in to jobs which are not related to their attributes. The focus is never on a long term existence as it is evident from the percentage of attrition in the sales jobs.

Campus Placements – Changing in Nature

The concept itself is changing. Apart from the top colleges in the cities, most of the others do not get companies to visit their campuses. When we quote the example of IT giant Infosys, they particularly take a list of the various top most colleges both in engineering as well as in management around the country and visit them for placement activities. It is impossible for them to visit all the campuses. On the other hand there is a new trend that has come in to existence being most B-schools sent in their students to the company premises for recruitment processes.

A very few number of colleges get good campus visitors. Now it’s very common to witness students in their formal attires such as blazers in front of almost all the financial service institutions and others for placement related activities. As part of this situation most of the colleges have started bringing in the services of Placement experts to find in more ways to attract or bring in more campus placements in to the colleges.

Many students get attracted towards the companies because of the brand value. The opportunities are available in the emerging sector. The most predominant aspect being that the salary has become a secondary aspect; it’s the situation which ensures high growth and scope of earning in the long run which drives the candidates.

The students have certain target companies in which they want to get in to. Campus placements provide certain average kind of options hence students apart from the campus placements go in for other modes of employment search specific to their requirements.

The students who opt in for full time MBA s with prior work experience are the major chunk of people who opt out from the campus placements. These candidates are well aware about their niche areas and are greatly focused.

Another predominant change being that the B schools have started engaging in Consultants for placing their students. Regional placements are also on the rise where students are able to communicate in the local language.

There is an increasing trend beginning like even after high level of satisfaction with the B-school, students often tend to look out for jobs purely to assess the market value. As already discussed above, it’s basically the candidate aspirations which play the important role in job acceptance and rejection. The main factor determining the dissatisfaction mainly lies in terms of wages or profile of the job. The result of this mismatch will lead directly to resignation.

The economic situation prevailing in the country in general also play significant role in the placement scenarios. The reputed B-school students don’t need to go in search of jobs. The IIMs don’t circulate in their resumes. A candidate is regarded as a fresher when he completes his course but on the other hand if he has no job he will be treated as an employed. Hence the candidates find it very difficult to get out of that circle of belief among the general public. The real skill lies where in the candidates are able to differentiate from the other pool of students with regard to the jobs and should stand out from others. Hence the talent factor among the students cannot be forgotten.

The companies are in a nature to appreciate the real talent of the students. It is their talents which they need to exhibit.  In many views campuses or institutions should not be engaged in the business of providing jobs to the students. They should only act as facilitators. The institutions are not always marketing personnel’s. They if engaged in job related  activities in the form of placement coordinators they need to deliver what they promised , otherwise the opinion about  their institutions in the mind of the students will change  which in turn will be passed on to the general public too.

Hence students are more interested in finding jobs which suits their line of interest. For this they rely more on references as well as job sites. The job sites have brought in a revolution in the job market in total.
