Universities Located In the Northern Part of Bangalore

  • Indian Institute of Science – Indian Institute of Sciences was founded in the year 1909 in Bangalore. The institute offers various disciplines of studies at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It also offers opportunities for the aspirants in various PhD programmes. The disciplines offered are science, technology and engineering.
  • Jain University – The University was formerly known as the Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College. The college was declared as a deemed university and renamed to its present form. The university offers various courses in many disciplines.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research – JNCASR in Bangalore is a multi disciplinary research institute. The university is young compared to other universities in Bangalore, but it has earned a good name all around the country. This is a deemed university which aims in promoting good research programmes in the field of science and engineering.
  • The National Centre for Biological Sciences – NCBS was founded in the year 1992 in Bangalore. The institute is a part of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. It was declared as deemed university by UGC. The institute offers various PhD and research programmes.
  • University of Agricultural Sciences – The University was established in the year 1963 by the Mysore Government. It is said that the beginning of the university was from an experimental farm which was spread over an area of 30 acres. An agricultural school was started then in 1913. It then occupied an area of 202 acres. And at present this farm serves as the research station for the aspirants in the university.

Universities Located In the Eastern Part of Bangalore

  • Amrita University – A campus of Amrita University, also called as Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was established in Bangalore in the year 2003. The university offers about 100 of different programmes for the aspirants. The university also has 5 campuses in other parts of southern India.

Universities Located In the Southern Part of Bangalore

  • Christ University –This University was founded in the year 1969 and is located in Bangalore. It is a deemed university which offers various courses at undergraduate as well as in master’s level.
  • International Institute of Information Technology – This university was declared as a deemed university in the year 1999 and is famously known as IIIT-B. The institute aims to contribute to the modern IT world. It focuses in various educational and research programmes.
  • National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences – NIMHANS was founded by Government of India in the year 1974. It was declared as a deemed university from 1994 by UGC.
  • Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences – This University was established by the Karnataka government in the year 1996. About 276 colleges in the state are affiliated to this university.

Universities Located In the Western Part of Bangalore

  • Bangalore University – This prestigious university in the state was founded in Bangalore in the year 1886. More than 50 courses at postgraduate level are offered in this university which is approved by UGC.
  • Indian Statistical Institute – ISI in Bangalore was founded in the year 1931. It got the status of National importance by the act of Parliament of India in 1959.
  • National Law School of India University – NLSIU is a law university founded in the year 1987 in Bangalore. The university offers various programmes in law such as BA LLB of 5 years, LLM, post graduate diploma programmes in Medical law, Human rights law.—
