LLM otherwise called Master of Law is a postgraduate law degree which is recognized internationally. This is a two year programme offered by many universities and institutions in the country. Most of the law graduates and professional pursue this postgraduate law course to obtain experience in specialized fields of law. These specialized fields include tax law, international law, civil law, criminal law, etc. Since these LLM graduates possess advanced knowledge and have specialized legal trainings, they are mostly preferred by the law firms. They have the qualities to work in multinational legal companies too.

The curriculum of the LLM course is designed in such way to create the law professionals to practice in the specialized fields. The LLM course is mostly chosen by those graduates who wish to purse the law in specialized areas. These professionals have huge opportunities in public and in private sectors.

Lawyers have ample career choices in private sectors. Most of them prefer to work as advocates and practice law as a profession. For such private practice they have to register with the Local/State/Central Bar Council. Besides this, they can work as legal advisors and counsel for reputed firms, organizations or even practice as family advocates. They are also recruited by the recognized firms as company secretaries. The legal consulting agency which deals with tax, labor, excise, patents, etc. gives job opportunities for them. They can also enter in the political field, since they maintain good with the people.

Government Sector Jobs after LLM

LLM graduates have bright opportunities in Central as well as in State government services. They may be appointed as judges in various courts in diverse roles such as Attorney and Solicitor General or as public prosecutors. They have also opportunities in defense, Labor and tax departments. Even the non profit organizations like NGOs also need the services provided by lawyers. Various international organizations such as UNO, ILO, ICJ, etc. employ the LLM graduates based on their reputation and experience records. Moreover they can work as lecturers or professors in various reputed Law schools or universities.

Job Prospects Abroad after LLM

There are not many jobs for the LLM graduates abroad. However to work as lawyers in foreign countries these graduates have to qualify the BAR examination organized by the concerned nation. In the well developed nations like the USA, the legal job market alone seems to be very competitive and this shows that it is very tough to get a good job for the foreign graduates.
