There are many projects that students can choose from the area of physical education. The details of the projects that can be adopted by students are given in detail below.

Physical Education Project # 1

Colored drawing of your body’s circulatory system

  • Students will have to include in their drawing:
  • A labeled drawing of the human heart.
  • Arrows showing the circulation of blood through out the body.
  • A minimum of 10 parts of the heart must be labeled.
  • Make use of the color red to signify oxygenated blood and blue for deoxygenated blood.
  • Mention 2 main functions of the human circulatory system.
  • Mention 2 methods to keep the circulatory system healthy.
  • Students are recommended to utilize an anatomy reference book or the internet for more information on the aforementioned topics.

Physical Education Project # 2

How Many Calories do you need?

Candidates need to do this on a spare piece of paper.

Part A:

  • In this part, one will discover how many calories they need to maintain their present weight. The following steps need to be followed to make calculations.
  • Convert weight from pounds to kilograms. This can be done by dividing weight by 2.2.

E.g.: 150 lbs / 2.2 lbs per kg = 68 kg

  • Multiply weight in kg by using the Base Metabolism Rate (males need to use BMR factor 1 and females BMR factor 9).

E.g.: Males: 68 kg x 1 kg/kg/hr = 68 cal/hr

  • Multiply the calories used by a person in 1 hour by the total number of hours in a day.

E.g.: 68 cal/hour x 24 hour/day = 1632 cal/day.

Thus you can confirm that the base metabolic rate for a normal 150 lb male is approximately 1632 calories/day

Part B

Now calculate the activity a person does each day.

Given below are the approximations of calories that are burned each day as per as the amount of muscular work done by a person each day.

  • For sedentary activity: 40-50% of BMR
  • For light activity: 55-65% of BMR
  • For moderate activity: 65-70% of BMR
  • For heavy work: 75 to 100% of BMR

If we take the case of a clerk, we can estimate the energy needed by him a day. We can multiply the BMR calories of a day by 50%.

e.g. 1632 cal/day x 50% = 816 cal/ day used for activities

We can conclude that the man we used as the example above uses

If the man we used as an example above were a clerk we could deduct his energy needs by multiplying per day by 1632 cal/day + 816 cal/day = 2448 cal/day. As the calculations are done on base of estimates, the total energy used by our man is about 2400-2500 calories a day.

Now, students can calculate the number of calories they use every day on base of the calculation steps given above.
