Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University is popularly known as Garhwal University and it came into existence in the year 1973 on the 1st of December with a view to satisfy the long felt educational requirements of the people of the local region. The university came into existence under the Provisions of the Uttar Pradesh State Universities Act. The university earned the status of Central University from the 15th of January 2009 under the provisions of Central Universities Ordinance Act 2009. The university is offering education through 180 affiliated colleges and three campuses. The university holds the pride of being one among the top ten largest universities in India and both private as well as government colleges are affiliated to the university.
