How to prepare for AFCAT Entrance Exams?

Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is a common admission test for selecting candidates for various branches of Indian Air Force. A written examination, interview, screening and medical test is conducted by the IAF for selecting the eligible candidates. AFCAT is conducted for the courses like Flying Branch for men and women, SSC for men and women, Ground Duty Officers Permanent Commission for men etc.

Structure of the AFCAT Entrance Exams

AFCAT is a 2 hours multiple choice test with 100 questions which carries 300 marks. Four options are given for each questions and the candidate have to choose the right answer. Each correct answer carries 3 marks and one mark is reduced for each incorrect answer. The test is to analyze the candidates’ knowledge in General Awareness, English Language, Numerical and Verbal Ability.

After qualifying for AFCAT exam the candidate have to attend an AFSB interview. The qualifying candidates have to attend for various tests according to the course they applied for. The candidates for the Flying Branch have to appear for a PABT (Pilot Aptitude Battery Test). The candidates who apply for the Technical Branch have to attend for the EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test). The candidates who clear the test will get the opportunity to work in IAF.

Syllabus of the AFCAT Entrance Exams

The written test includes questions for evaluating the candidates’ basic knowledge in the areas of General Awareness, English knowledge, Numerical Ability, Military Aptitude etc. The four sections in the written test are given below.

  • Section 1: Test of General Awareness
  • Section 2: Test of English Language
  • Section 3: Test of Numerical Ability
  • Section 4: Test of Reasoning and Military Aptitude

Reference Books for AFCAT Entrance Exams

Different books for the preparation of the candidate for the AFCAT test are available in book stores across India. AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) by RPH Editorial Board is one of the books one can refer to. Other than that books for other entrance exams like bank PO, CAT etc.

Study Plan for the AFCAT Entrance Exams

The students should develop a good knowledge in each areas specified in the syllabus. The candidates have to improve general awareness by reading newspapers and watching TV news. The candidates have to develop proper time management skill for answering maximum number of questions within the time frame. The students have to practice well for answering the questions. Previous question papers and other study materials are also available in the internet and students should make use of the same. Students can use these resources to score good marks in the AFCAT test.
