The words Chemist and Druggist are often used interchangeably; there exist certain possible differences between the two. Chemist can be considered as a chemical scientist who knows the chemical composition of matter that makes up a substance. Druggist on the other hand is mainly involved in distribution of medicines according to the prescription of doctors or other health professionals.

Both these professionals can find a lot of career opportunities in medical sector. Chemist can work with the research and developmental section of drug manufacturing firms. Druggists usually get involved with the pharmaceutical section of medical firms. They also advice customers regarding the dosage, side effects and usage of prescribed medicines.

Druggist and Opportunities

Pharmacy degree holders can easily get in to the job position of druggist. Bachelor of pharmacy courses are offered through several colleges in the country. The course study enables them to understand medical terminologies, drug interactions, its side effects, dosage, etc. After completion of the course, one can find enough job opportunities of India as well as abroad. These professionals can also work in supporting roles with research firms in medical sector.

Chemist and Opportunities

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry is the basic qualification required for the position of chemist. Research skills and mathematical aptitude are often preferred for the job. These professionals can find job opportunities in chemical laboratories, plant offices, and in research and development labs. Those with higher educational qualifications in the area of chemistry can get in to the role of project directors or supervisors by gaining experience.

Key differences between Chemist and Druggist

  • Chemists usually get involved in the study of the chemical nature of substances. They carry out research on the chemical reactions and interactions that take place between substances. Druggist on the other hand often deals with the distribution of medicines according to the direction of a physician.
  • Chemist can find employment opportunities in a variety of industries where as druggist are mainly preferred by companies in medical sector.

The education requirement and nature of work of both the professions are much different. Chemist can get involved in the development of new drugs where as druggist are not involved in such actions.
