Pediatrics is one of the medical specialties, which deals with the treatment of infants, children and teenagers. To become a pediatrician, one should need either MD in Pediatrics or DNB in Pediatrics. Both of these degrees are considered as equivalent even though there is a little difference between them. Diplomate of National Board (DNB) is awarded by National Board of Examinations (NBE). This degree can be obtained from the Institutes listed under National Board of Examinations. Medical Council of India has no direct role in giving this degree. Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Pediatrics is the degree awarded by the Institutes listed under Medical Council of India.

MD in Pediatrics and its Opportunities

The basic qualification needed for those who aspire to obtain MD in Pediatrics is MBBS degree from any Institute approved by Medical Council of India. They should also have completed one year internship after their MBBS degree. Pediatricians who have MD degree can find opportunities in both government and private sector. They can also work as a teaching faculty at any Medical Institute.

DNB in Pediatrics and its Opportunities

The basic qualification needed for those who aspire to obtain DNB in Pediatrics is MBBS degree from any Institute approved by Medical Council of India. They should pass the exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations to obtain the DNB. They should have also completed three year post-MBBS residency training at any teaching hospital approved by this Board. Usually government hospitals prefer MD degree holders than DNB degree holders for the post of Pediatrician. Government Institutions also prefers MD degree holders for teaching than DNB holders. Therefore DNB holders can find vast opportunities in the private sector than public sector.

    Editor must be DNB
I bet the MD is highest demanding degree among aspirants . If one independently want to compare competition difference between both , I will say compare clerical level examination competition with UPSC super class 1 level examination and you will understand difference . Only losers take DNB dude.
