The term Laheriasarai, might be new to most of us, but it is a popular name among the people of Bihar since it is a city located in the Northern Bihar and is considered as twin city of the District of Darbhanga. The city has a long cultural heritage and it has been an integral part of the city of Mithila and has a religious importance for Hindus particularly Brahmins with Jha Surnames. Name of the city:

The name of the city was derived from the caste called Lahiri engaged in making of Lahathi (Lac Bangle). However, the professional based on caste has completely vanished these days and the city is the administrative area of Dharbanga. The city was the home for the popular literary figure Acharya Ramlochan Saran, whose grandsons are still living in the city.

Dharbanga Medical College is functioning under the control of the government of Bihar and the college is approved by the Medical Council of India and is affiliated to L.N. Mithila University. The college was incepted in the year 1946 and the Medical Council of India has approved the college to admit 90 students per year for the MBBS course. The college has produced many health care professionals to the nation and the alumnus of this college are performing as successful doctors serving from different parts of the nation and abroad as well.

Even though, the city of Laheriasarai does not have other colleges, students looking for arts, science, engineering, commerce and other courses are benefitted from the colleges in the nearby cities of the state of Bihar. However, there are private colleges in the city offering education under different faculties. There is also a homeopathic medical college running under private ownership in the city of Laheriasarai and the name of this college is Sinha Homoeopathic Medical College, which is also attached with a hospital for offering homeopathic health care and education to the people of Bihar in general and to the people of Laheriasarai in particular. Thereby Laheriasarai with a single government-run educational institution is offering medical professionals to the nation.
