Sikkim University was established in the year 2007 with an urban campus spreaded in an area of approximatley 753 acres. The university is located at Gangtok, Sikkim. This central university actually came into existence under Sikkim University Act, 2006. The university started functioning from the year 2007 in the month of August. Mr. M. S. Swaminathan is the Chancellor of the university while Mr. Mahindra P. Lama is the present Vice Chancellor. The university has an academic staff of approximately 1000 personnel. The university offers various tradiontional as well as non traditional courses in the field of humantities, Life Sciences etc.
