Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) conducts an entrance test known as OPENMAT for admission to MBA program. Only graduates can apply for this All India Level test which consists of total 200 multiple choice questions. This exam primarily tests the proficiency in English Language and Logical & Reasoning ability of candidates. Those who want to appear for this test should get the application form from IGNOU office or website and send it to the concerned authority after filling it properly.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum educational requirements specified to apply for OPENMAT is graduation in any stream with at least 50% marks (45% marks for reserved category). Those who possess any Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 3 years of experience in Professional/Supervisory/Managerial positions are also eligible for this exam. Candidates having Professional qualifications like CA, ICWA or Company Secretaryship can also appear for this entrance test. Master’s degree holders need only pass marks to apply for OPENMAT.

Foreign Nationals can apply only if they possess valid student VISA. There is no age limit to appear for OPENMAT.

Exam Pattern

OPENMAT is an objective test that consists four main sections which are

• General Awareness
• Quantitative Aptitude
• Reasoning

English Language and Quantitative Aptitude sections will have total 50 questions each. General Awareness section will consist of total 30 questions where as total 70 questions will be asked in Reasoning section. Maximum time allotted to complete all these sections is 180 minutes. Negative marking will not be there in OPENMAT.

Application Procedure

Candidates can purchase the application form of OPENMAT from the concerned IGNOU branch after paying an amount of Rs. 500/-. They can also download the form from the official website of IGNOU when the notification for the academic year is published. In this case, a demand draft of Rs. 500/- should be taken in the name of IGNOU and sent along with the duly filled form. Applicants should send the duly filled forms to the Director of School of Management Studies, IGNOU.
