Admission Procedure for M.A. in Economics in Delhi School of Economics
Bachelor degree holders with 60% marks are eligible to apply for M.A. in Economics in Delhi School of Economics (under University of Delhi). Admission to the course is done on the basis of entrance exam conducted by Delhi University.
Eligibility for M.A. in Economics Admission in Delhi School of Economics
Candidates having bachelor degree in Economics (Hons.) either from the University of Delhi or any other Indian University recognized by Delhi University are eligible to apply. Such candidates must have a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in the qualifying degree.
Bachelor degree holders from other streams are also eligible for admission provided they satisfy certain requirements. These candidates must have obtained the required qualifying degree from Delhi University or any other recognized Indian University and also they must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 60% marks in degree level exam.
Reserved category candidates can enjoy relaxation in the basic eligibility specifications. OBC candidates are offered with 10% relaxation in the qualifying examination marks, i.e. they need to have a minimum of 45% marks in place of 50% in case of general category candidates. No basic percentage requirements (in graduation) are needed for candidates belonging to SC/ST category. Mere pass in the qualifying examination is enough to seek admission to the course.
Selection Procedure for M.A. in Economics in Delhi School of Economics
Selection of eligible candidates from the pool of applicants is done on the basis of an entrance test. Entrance test is organized and conducted by Delhi University itself. There will be two types of question paper namely Option A and Option B. Option A is suitable for candidates who have studied Economics/Commerce at degree level. Candidates who have studied Mathematics and Statistics at degree level can opt for Option B.
Question paper for Option A and B comprises of two parts. Part I of Option A includes 20 multiple choice questions, carrying 1 mark each. Part II includes 40 multiple choice questions. Each question of this section carries 2 marks. Therefore, total marks for the test is 100. Also the time allotted for the completion of the test is 3 hours.
There are only 15 questions for Option B question paper. First 10 questions (each carrying 2 marks) are included under Part I. In Part II there will be 5 questions, out of which 4 needs to be answered. Each question in Part II carries 20 marks. Time duration given for Option B is also same as that of Option A.
Only those candidates who can score 40% marks in the entrance test are considered for admission. Reserved category candidates can have relaxation in this cut off marks. Short listed candidates on the basis of entrance exam will be called for interview. Those who get through this level can join the course on the intimated date.
