Structure of Anna University Centre for Research PhD Entrance Test

There will be two sections for this entrance exam. First section will be an aptitude test which evaluates numerical ability, reasoning ability, language proficiency of the candidate. Usually objective type questions will be asked in this section. Second section will cover all the subjects studied in the qualifying examination. In this section there will be objective and descriptive type questions.

For PhD Degree in Engineering or Technology: Candidates should possess any of the degrees given below in the relevant branch of Engineering or Technology to become eligible to apply for this test

For PhD Degree in Science and Humanities: Candidates should possess any of the degrees given below to become eligible to apply for this test

• Master of Science
• Master of Arts in English
• Master of Science (By Research) in the relevant branch of Science and Humanities
• Master of Computer Application

For PhD Degree in Management Sciences: Candidates should possess any of the degrees given below to become eligible to apply for this test

• Master of Business Administration
• Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management or Administration (from IIM)
• Master of Science (By Research) in Management Sciences

For PhD Degree in Architecture and Planning: Candidates should possess any of the degrees given below to become eligible to apply for this test

• Master of Architecture
• Master of Planning
• Master of Science (By Research) in Architecture and Planning

Cut off marks is 55% for general candidates and 50% for SC/ST candidates.

How to Apply?

Applicants should download the forms from the website www.annauniv.edu and fill it completely. Then they should send it to The Director, Centre for Research, Anna University, Chennai - 25 with relevant documents. Application fee for this exam should be paid through the DD taken in the name of ‘The Director (Research), Anna University’. This DD, payable at Chennai should be sent along with the application form to the concerned authority. General candidates should take the DD for Rs.600/- and SC/ST candidates should take it for Rs.300/-.

How to fill the Form?

Applicants should enter their details correctly into the forms. Admit card will not be given to the applicants, if the information submitted by them is incorrect. Details about the DD should be entered correctly into the columns specified for it.

Study Plan

Obtain the syllabus: Students should obtain the syllabus specified for this PhD entrance exam. They should collect text books and guides according to this syllabus through online or offline resources. These study materials will help the students to understand the main concepts in every subject.

Prepare a plan to study: Students should make a plan to study different topics with the available time. They should pick the difficult topics and concentrate on it with more time. Divide the available time between easy topics and difficult topics so that the difficult topics will get more time. Students should specify a target for each day. Try to finish that target every day.

Revise the topics: Students should revise the topics at the end of every week using the notes prepared while referring through the text books. They can also revise the topics using old question papers by solving each question.
