The topics that are discussed in this paper are client model, services of operating system, booting concept, device driver and its use, context switching, variable partition, W2K cluster server design, file mounting, disk formatting, etc.
Division:
There are three divisions of this paper as Section A, Section B and Section C.
Time and marks:
The total marks for this paper are 100 and the time duration in which this question paper is to be answered is of three hours.
Paper Pattern:
There are total 20 questions in this paper which are divided into the three sections of the paper. Section A of the paper contains 10 questions which are objective type with 4 options in each questions of which only one is correct. Each question of this section carries 1 mark. There are 5 questions in the Section B of the paper, each of which contains 5 marks. There is one option provided in each of the question of this section. There are also 5 questions in the last section of the paper and the maximum mark for each of the question is 12 marks. All these question of the Section C are long answer type. As in Section, there are two options in each question of this section of which only one is to be answered.
The paper pattern remains the same, but you can expect the unexpected. Sometimes, there are no objective type questions and the entire paper will consist of subjective questions. However, that would be on-of case, but you should be prepared for that also.

Since the subject is operating System, you can very well expect questions like different types of services provided by operating system, Different process states of operating system and Structure of Operating System. Semaphore, Booting Concept, Time-Sharing, Scheduling, Context Switching, Clusters, W2K Clusters, Client/Server Model/Applications etc. are some of the favorite topics of the examiner and you can very well expect questions in good number.
