Numerical Analysis is the detailed conceptual study of step by step problem solving and teaches some typical methods to solve some complex mathematical numerical questions which are difficult to be solved using the usual methods.

Importance of paper:

The paper is very important one as it is necessary for the study of engineering and students need to be aware of all the methods and steps because the subject finds applications in some very important sectors of engineering. The movement of heavenly bodies involves the uses of differential equations data analysis requires numerical linear algebra.

Overview of the paper

The question paper is a very short and compact type of paper. It consists of only three questions from the entire syllabus; therefore the students have to be well aware of all the topics and should have a thorough understanding of the subject so as to tackle any type of problem put forward. The three questions in the sheet are all long answer type questions and require patience solving.

Frequently asked questions:

Significant errors, forward difference, backward difference, questions from trapezoidal rule, Simpson’s one third rule and Weddle’s rule. Interpolation, Lagrange’s interpolation formula, divided difference method, solution of algebraic and transcendental equations including Newton-Raphson method , method of bisection and regula falsi method, forward difference operator,  backward difference operator,  shift operator, Gauss elimination method, Gauss-Siedel  iteration method, matrix inversion method,  Gauss-Jordan’s Matrix inversion method, Matrix factorization method, solution of ODE using Euler’s method, Taylor’s series method, Runge-Kutta method, Milne’s predictor corrector method.

Time and marks:

The maximum mark carried by the paper is 40 and the maximum time allotted to the students for the exam is 50 minutes.
