Advertisements

The objective of Electromagnetic Field Theory paper is to make the students familiar with the concepts of field theory and fundamental equations. This subject is very important for the Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) students as it acts as a pre-requisite for the “Radiation and propagation” and “Microwave Engineering” in further semesters.

Syllabus

The syllabus of Electromagnetic Field Theory of B. Tech in ECE consists of the following modules:

1. Module 1: Coordinate systems, vector fields and theorems, electrostatics

2. Module 2: Steady electric currents and current density, magneto statics, Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction

3. Module 3: Maxwell’s equations, Plane Wave propagation, General Wave Equation

4. Module 4: Parallel wire transmission lines

Text books

The text books recommended for this paper are:

1. Electromagnetic Field Theory by Guru and Hiziroglu

Examination Pattern

The paper consists of two parts: Internal work assessment (50 marks) and External University Examination (100 marks). The internal work assessment depends on the candidates performance in the class, attendance, marks in the internal exams etc. The University Examination consists of 5 questions: QI to QV. QI has 8 short answer type questions of 5 marks, 2 from each module.
