Public Sector jobs after M.A in Economics
Indian Economic Service (IES) is one of the excellent options in Government Sector. Those who qualify the exam will be appointed as ‘Group A Officers’ in National Sample Survey, Planning Commission, Ministry of Economic Affairs, etc. Basic salary which M.A. Economics graduates can draw for these jobs may reach up to Rs. 39,000/- per month. Reserve Bank of India often recruits M.A Economics graduates to the post of Research Officer with basic pay packages up to Rs. 21,000/- per month.
World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Asian Development Bank, etc are other common recruiters in banking sector. NET qualified candidates can work as Assistant Professor in Government Colleges and can earn up to Rs. 40,000/- per month. They can also work as Research Associate in National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) with entry-level salary of around Rs. 12,000/- per month.
Private Sector jobs after M.A in Economics
Fresh graduates in M.A Economics can work as Data Analyst/Research Analyst in firms like IHS Solutions, Bangalore. Firms offer job in the role of ‘Market Research Associate’ for aspirants with one-year job experience. Those with 4-5 years of work experience can get in to the role of ‘Analyst-Wealth Management’ in consulting companies.
Those who get specialized in Financial Economics (at M.A level) can look forward for a job as Public Accountant, Treasury Manager, Inventory Manager, or Risk and Insurance Manager. Financial Organizations, Business firms, etc are the main recruiter’s of these candidates. Market Research, Equity Research, Rural Development, etc are the other employment areas where job opportunities are available. One can also seek openings in private firms in the area of Marketing and Sales, Insurance and stock markets. One can also work as Teacher in Higher Secondary Schools and Management/Unaided Colleges. Entry-level salary packages for private sector jobs in most cases will be in the range of Rs. 12,000/- to 20,000/- per month. Salary packages will raise with work experience and nature of job assigned.
