Mr. Sharma is a leading engineer in a consulting company and he always had a successful time in his career. So he wants his son to be in the same profession and asked him to take the same career. But Yogi wants to have a career in photography and also his career aspirations are wandering around the DJ world and the fashion technology.  Neha, who scored 90% in the plus two board exam, love Kalpana Chawla and is dreaming about the space and galaxies.  But she is also interested in the Human Anatomy and biotechnology. So she is in a dilemma, where to go?These are some of our young talents who are really in a dilemma in choosing their career. It seems like a scary task for most of the young bloods. Is it because of the limited knowledge about the courses? How can we convince somebody on that?

Though we are living in an advanced technology world and the information is at our figure tips, we are still finding it difficult. Is it because, you don’t know about yourself? The students are only focusing about the parental pressure and the societal burden.  The students carefully follow others decision rather than listening to their heart. Your decision should be based on your own mental analysis.

The decision making is very crucial in your life and there is nothing wrong in seeking help from others. But the final decision should be yours; you have to study the course by yourself and no cheating on that will be encouraged.   There is something that you can do yourself before selecting a course.

Know Yourself First!!!!

Self evaluation is the key here.  The decision should be based not only on the interest in the subject, but also on your future aspirations. You can search through your dreams and your thoughts on the future. This mental exercise will help you to gather information about yourself and surely can have an influence on your decision.

Each of us possesses talents and potential in specific areas.  But most of the time, we fail to understand those areas.  There are some self assessment tools which help you to recognize these potential including what is your best quality, what comes simply and naturally to you, what are the things you are enjoying while doing it and what characterize you.  The students can take the psychometric tests for assessing the skills in reasoning, verbal, and numerical ability.  These tests include problems and exercise in these areas which can help you analyse your strengths and weaknesses and create a profile of yourself.

You can carry-out the evaluation by yourself. There is nothing so complex in it. You can talk to your teachers and parents and to the most effective group, friends and peers. They will help you to identify your status and profile. These are so many counseling and career guidance centers in our country who works for the same purpose. The trained professional will help you to discover your strengths, weakness and your aspirations etc. They can guide you to the suitable decision regarding the next step.

Matching With the Opportunity…
Another important knowledge you should have before taking any decision on the career is the awareness about the existing opportunities.  This world offers a huge number of opportunities to grow and develop. If you are taking the right decision and right path even sky is not a limit for you.
The opportunities are available in our country as well as abroad. You can collect as many information regarding the courses/programs, for this you can either rely on the internet medium or avail the help of information centers. When you are collecting the information about a particular course, you have to think about the future opportunities associated with that course or program.
You can make a list of courses that is appealing to you and also write down the area of work, nature and kind of job, average remuneration, future growth and the external environment of the particular job. You can also make an assumption about the possible changes expected to happen in the industry within a period. Then you have to do the matching, you can consider each opportunity against your personality, potential and also with your interest. You have to choose a field from the existing opportunities which balance these criteria and take the decision.
Remember one thing; each area has its own appearance and attractiveness. But you don’t need to select the most attractive one; you have to select the most suitable one for you, the one which leads to success and your own satisfaction.
Moving Towards the Dream….
Once you take the decision regarding the career and the course, the next step is to find the way to reach the goal.  Here the major point is the selection of the college/institute where you would pursue your future aspiration. You can select an institute within or outside the country. You should have a clear idea about the course and its higher studies options and other training programs you need to take so as to reach your career goal.
You can also think about the required skills you need to develop during the course which enhances your career objective.  The skills needed may be in the technical or non-technical domain. You can improve your communication skills through debates. The group activities and working with your classmates contributes to your leadership and managerial quality. According to your career prospects you can build up and improve the required skills.
The decision regarding the next step is so important because it determines your future. You life can vary according to each small decision you may take. If you think that you will have time to do mistakes, you have, but you can never compensate for the time, effort and also the resource you spent on making the mistakes. Never ever give a chance to blame your parent, others or yourself. Don’t rely on the guts feeling; take enough time to think on the career. If you are ready to put some effort on the decision making part it will not be a scary tale for you…..
