Essential Information on Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

Scholastic Aptitude Test is the exam conducted for the admission to any of the under graduate course in colleges in USA. It is conducted by College Entrance Examination Board of USA. Candidates who are pursuing higher secondary course are eligible to apply for this exam. The test includes two papers, General and Subject related.

Eligibility Criterion for Scholastic Aptitude Test

Candidates who have completed higher secondary course from a recognized board or University in India are eligible to apply for this test. Final year candidates can also apply. There is no minimum mark required to be eligible for this exam.

Exam Pattern of Scholastic Aptitude Test

The exam comprises of two papers. They are

  • SAT General Test
  • SAT Subject Test

The duration of SAT General Test is three hours and 45 minutes. This paper includes three sections such as reading, writing and Mathematics. There will be objective type multiple choice questions in this paper. Candidates’ skills in reading comprehension, sentence completion and paragraph reading will be evaluated in reading section. There will be questions to check candidates’ knowledge in Basic English Grammar and word choice in Writing section. Mathematics section will contain questions from Basic Arithmetic, data interpretation, probability, algebra and statistics.

SAT subject test will contain multiple choice objective type questions from any three subjects. Candidates have the option to select any three subjects from a list of subjects from any of the following subjects.

  • Chemistry
  • French
  • German Reading
  • Literature
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Social Studies
  • Spanish Listening
  • World history

The duration of this test is one hour. Questions will be asked to evaluate candidates’ knowledge in particular subject areas. There will be high school level questions in subject test.

Application Procedure

Candidates who wish to write SAT exam can register for the exam by post as well as in online mode. Candidates who wish to apply by mail are required to obtain the application form from their school/ college. Application form can be downloaded from the official website of USIEF. They will have to pay the exam fees of Rs. 4,200/- by taking a Demand Draft. Duly filled in application form along with Bank Draft should be sent to “College Board SAT program, Princeton, NJ 08541, USA”.

Online registration is the quickest as well as convenient mode of application. Candidates are advised to follow the instructions given in the official website while filling up the online application form. Fee payment can be done by using Credit as well as Debit cards issued by Visa, American express or MasterCard.
