For joining it first of all candidate must have to qualify civil service exams (all stages) only the candidate's who top the IAS exam are offered to appear for exam for R & AW, then the qualified candidates are selected as an agent of R & AW for the service of 2 to 5 years which is extendable for up to 9 years maximum depending upon candidates capabilities.

There is no permanent job in R & AW, top officials or chief for R & AW are selected from IB,CBI, ARMY,IAS etc. who are serving India from at least 20 years.

I am a serving JCO of Indian Army in the Corps of Signals and due for retirement on 01 Nov 2012. I have a rich experience of 30 years in the field of telecommunication as well as computer hardware and data networking. I want to join R & AW as a junior telecom engr or system administrator. sir i m student(XYZ) gng to complete this year,,,i just wanted to know why cn;t a common person,who wants to join raw but he cn't and that common person is more intelligent then a raw member,with having lots of information about the city what exactly is going,and that common person can't go and speak to any police person???

there is no direct method to join r.a.w. You can join it by appearing in exam of s.s.c.
There are some groups in s.s.c.
You are called to join raw according to your choice and elegibility.

The exam's name is Deputy filed officers under cabinet secretary in which you can appear.

RAW also recruits from Army, Police, and other armed forces

Initially, RAW relied primarily on trained intelligence officers who were recruited directly. These belonged to the external wing of the Intelligence Bureau. Later RAW began directly recruiting graduates from universities. RAW has its own service cadre, the Research and Analysis Service (RAS) to absorb talent.

Exam pattern
The exam tests candidates in English language and general knowledge. An interview and a compulsory medical examination follow the test. Graduates (upper age limit is 25 years) are eligible to appear for the examination.

Personal Attributes Required:
• Sharp, analytical mind
• Physical fitness
• Stamina
• Mental alertness
• High levels of concentration
• Keen powers of observation
• Logical, rational and analytical thinking
• Willingness to travel
• Ability to adapt to long, erratic working hours
• Willingness to work in remote and dangerous territories

Oh my God! I do now regret the moment when I typed eligibility criteria for applying in R&AW. Well, some of the informations given are useful but mostly you guys are literally begging and squirming to get in this agency. What is wrong with you people! One guy is claiming that he can take off his ears or eyes. Well, fistly let me inform you these agencies donot generally take in deformed persons, mentally and physically, and secondly it is downright gross. And the way most of you people are begging, let me tell you something, if you ever get selected, you will beg and cry even more to get out of it. Then I think it will be quite humorous to see your so called "patriotism" fly away from window,lol. On a serious note, take some other career option because this one has a "dead-end." And I do mean it...

R&AW agents or any spy agent will not reveals their identity, & it requires to be a graduate & mostly spy agents are operating out of india, IB is controlling domestic & international boundaries, But R&AW apy agents is only for internationals & u can wikipedia it, other information i cannot disclose in public, it's not allowed & Roght Information Act,2005 is not applicable on R&AW & it's only in control of P.M of India, except him/her only Cheif of R&AW can operate them.
