Am I eligible for JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2017?

The JEE Mains as well as JEE Advanced both have an eligibility criteria about the year of passing 12th. I was absent in 12th in 2014 and then I changed Board from CBSE to NIOS and repeated and passed 12th in 2016. Am I eligible for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced 2017?
The eligibility criteria states the year of appearing or passing 10th. Does this year includes previous board too?

JEE stands for Joint Entrance Examination. There are two stages of this exam JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The year in which you have appeared for board examination is taken for calculation of number of attempts for both stages. As you have stated in query that you appeared for 10+2 exam in 2016 from NIOS board, you can apply for:

>>JEE Main examination that will be held in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

>>JEE Advanced examination in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Number of attempts is calculated on basis of year in which you appeared for board examination. Candidate who clear JEE Main exam are only eligible for JEE Advanced exam.

JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations are National level entrance examinations which are conducted by CBSE and IITs for offering admission to interested candidates in Undergraduate Engineering and Architecture programs in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and IITs.

To be eligible to appear in JEE Main examination, you should have passed 12th standard or an equivalent examination with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English subjects from a Government recognised board. Candidates who have qualified and secured top 1,50,000 rank among all categories in JEE Main examination and those who have secured minimum 75% (70% for SC/ST) marks in 12th standard board examinations are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced examination.

Candidates who have passed 12th standard examinations in the year 2016 or 2015 and those who will appear 12th standard examinations in the year 2017 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2017 examination and candidates who have passed 12th standard in the year 2016 or those who will appear 12th standard examinations in the year 2017 are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced 2017 examination.

As per the information you have provided in your query, you have passed 12th standard from NIOS Board in the year 2016, so, you are eligible to apply for JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2017 examination.

There are three consecutive attempts for JEE Main exam and two consecutive attempts for JEE Advanced exam. The first attempt is in the year in which you appear for board exams. For example:

*You have appeared for board exams in 2016 and passed 12th and so you can apply for JEE Main exam in 2016 and 2017&2018. But for JEE advanced, you will be eligible for 2016 and 2017 only.

It does not include previous board year in which you did not appear for exams.

The criteria for both the exams clearly state that one must be give the JEE Advanced and JEE Mains in consecutive years after the first attempt at the 12th standard board exams.
There are in total 2 attempts for JEE Advanced and 3 for JEE Mains but have to be in consecutive years.
If you had attempted or even registered for the 12th standard exam in 2014 (doesn't matter if you were absent) you will not be eligible to give any of the JEE exams.

JEE stands for Joint Entrance Examination and it is a common engineering entrance examination held by CBSE once every year for admission in undergraduate technical courses in CFITs ( Centrally Funded Institute of Technology ) like IIT, NIT, IIIT, ISM, etc. .

--> JEE is conducted in two stages which includes JEE Main and JEE Advanced respectively.

--> The basic eligibility criteria required for appearing in the same examination are as here under :-

* You must have the nationality of India with your age lying under 25 years till the 1st October of that year in which you will appear in the same examination.

* You must have completed your Class 12th with PCM stream with a minimum of 60% aggregate from a recognized board.

--> Also for appearing in JEE Advance you need to qualify JEE Main along with that much aggregate in your board examination that keeps you within the top 20 percentile student of your board. Students securing 75% aggregate in their board examination are also eligible for the same examination.

Now as far as you are concerned about your eligibility having passed your Class 12th examination in 2016 with NIOS then I would like to make you clear that you will be certainly eligible as for JEE 2017 students passing Class 12th board examination in 2015, 2016 and 2017 are eligible. Also for the eligibility of JEE year of passing of Class 10th does not matters.

For further details regarding the same examination you can log on to the link www.jeemain.nic.in.

To appear in the JEE Entrance exam a candidate must have passed 12th with non medical stream with at least 60% marks from recognised board and relaxation is given to the candidates of reserved categories in percentage of 5 marks. Once you qualify the JEE Mains you will be eligible to write JEE Advanced but for that you must have score the cutoff cut off of JEE Mains.
Minimum age should not be less than 17 years and maximum should not exceed 25 years where as relaxation of 5 years is given to the candidates of SC and ST categories.
