IPS stands for Indian Police Services. To become an IAS officer you will have to appear Indian Civil Services Examination conducte by UPSC every year. This examination is conducted in two stages. 1. Civil Services Preliminary Examination or Civil Services Aptitude test (Paper 1) (200 marks) - Duration : Two hrs. •Current events of national and international importance •History of India and Indian national movement •Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world •Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc. •Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc. •General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change-that donot require subject specialization •General science. (Paper II) (200 marks) – Duration : Two hrs •Comprehension •Interpersonal skills including communication skills •Logical reasoning and analytical ability •Decision making and problem solving •General mental ability •Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. –Class X level) •English language comprehension skills (Class X level) 2. Those who qualify CSAT, appear in MAIN exam and on the bais of marks in Main exam candidates are called for Interview. The score of Main exam and Interview are added to produce final merit list. The main exam includes following papers. B. Main Examination The written examination will consist of the following papers : Paper I - One of the Indian languages to be selected by the candidate(300 marks) Paper II - English (300 marks) Paper III - Essay (200 marks) Papers IV - General Studies I (300 marks) Paper V - General Studies II (300 marks) Paper VI - Ist section of Optional Subject-1 (300 marks) Paper VII - IInd section of Optional Subject-1 (300 marks) Paper VIII - Ist section of Optional Subject-2 (300 marks) Paper IX - IInd section of Optional Subject-2 (300 marks) For optional subject you have to select any ywo subjects from following list Agriculture Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science Anthropology Botany Chemistry Civil Engineering Commerce and Accountancy Economics Electrical Engineering Geography Geology History Law Management Mathematics Mechanical Engineering Medical Science Philosophy Physics Political Science and International Relations Psychology Public Administration Sociology Statistics Zoology You can choose any two subjects from above list but following combinations are not allowed (a) Political Science & International Relations and Public Administration; (b) Commerce & Accountancy and Management; (c) Anthropology and Sociology; (d) Mathematics and Statistics; (e) Agriculture and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science. (f) Management and Public Administration; (g) Of the Engineering subjects, viz., Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering not more than one subject. (h) Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science and Medical Science. Civil service exam is conducted by the UPSC once a year to select students for the different civil services lie IAS,IPS,IFS and many more .The examination is done once a year which consists of three phases ::
1.Preliminary exam 2.Main exam 3.Interview Only those students will quailfy for the main exam who has clear their preliminary exam. Preliminary Examination:: This examination is common for all streams students and is also called CSAT exam.It consists of two papers of 200 marks each and 2 hour duration for both of them .Both papers will consist of Objective Type questions only. Main ExaminationIt consists of total 9 papers and of 2000 marks in total .There are 4 optional papers.These four papers are done in 2 optional subjects which a students have chooses which means that two papers for each optional subjects . Eligibility :: You should have completed your graduation in any stream from a recognized college. You age should be between 21 to 30 years for general category 35 year is upper age limit for SC/ST 33 years is upper age limit for OBC No of attempts :: 4 for general students 7 for OBC students No limit for SC/ST Important dates CIVIL SERVICES EXAM.2012 :: Sale of application form ::04.02.2012 Last date to apply for the civil service exam ::05.03.2012 Date of prelims exam::20.05.2012 Date of main exam ::05.10.2012 For more information::http://www.upsc.gov.in/ |
