Yes, you are eligible for GATE 2016 exam.

If you have Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or Architecture/Design or its equivalent or masters degree in science department then you are eligible for GATE exam.

There are no restriction for attempts in GATE exam. You can apply any number of time. There is no age criteria but your minimum age must be above 18 years.

Yes dear you will have an eligibility to apply for GATE Exam still having a backlog in your 6th semester. So you need not worry about the GATE Exam. And one thing I must say is You must concentrate more on your academic subjects. Then Automatically you will get good knowledge on the Concepts needed for GATE Exam.

Final year students can appear for GATE exam. Your backlog doesnt create a problem as of now. But you must have cleared it before getting your M.E/M.Tech admission. In your application in year of passing column you can definitely find 2016 (your passing year)as an option. you can choose that as your option.

In order to give the GATE exam you only need to be above the age of 18 and should have pursued engineering in your graduation.
Your performance in your graduate course will effect only the admission you get in aany college through GATE.
This means that before the results of the GATE exam come out you must have cleared your backlog or atleast before joining an M.Tech institute as they will not accept the application of a student who does not have a graduate degree or also one who is not sure whether he will get a degree at all.
