After class 10 you cannot appear for the IPS exams. The Indian Police Service Exam is part of the Civil Services Exam conducted by the UPSC. For getting selected to the IPS, a candidate should appear for IPS exam and clear it and also meet the physical and other requirements as mandated. Minimum age is 21 years and maximum age is 30 years to appear for the exams. Minimum educational qualification is a graduate degree in any discipline or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

IPS-INDIAN POLICE SERVICE, to be an IPS officer you should have minimum graduation degree as your educational qualification and with a minimum age of 21 years so that you can apply for Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC every year for selection of IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS etc. officer.

Now you are in 10th standard now and as you are interested to join IPS then accordingly you should have started preparation with a goal to crack Civil Service Exam along with your regular study. You can apply for Civil Service exam while you are in the final year of your graduation or passed from any stream of education. You can attempt Civil Service exam 4 times within the age of 21 to 30 years. As this exam is very tough and competitive, you have to do hard work and prepare according to the syllabus provided for Civil Service.

For more information you may log on to official web site of UPSC i.e. www.upsc.gov.in

IPS is not a course. It is a competitive examination. Rather, it is called the Civil Services Examination, where Indian Police Service is just one component alongwith other services like IAS, IRS, etc.

To appear for this, you have to be at least a graduate. The discipline under which you get your graduate degree hardly matters. You may have an Arts degree, a science degree, an Engg degree, a Management degree, whatever. You would choose your optional papers depending upon your background and fields of interest.

I would suggest that you come out with flying colours in +2 exams, join a good institute in a good discipline and get a degree with outstanding performance. Things would fall in place automatically.

All the best.

You cannot appear for the IPS exam after your 10th class as the minimum eligibility for the same is as under-

1. You must have complete the graduation in any trade from a recognized university.

2. The age should be in between 21-30 years.
For SC/ST the upper age relaxation is 5 years and for OBC the upper age relaxation is 3 years.

The selection procedure consist of three stages-
CSAT(Civil Service Aptitude Test)
Mains Exam
Personal Interview.

One have to clear every stage with vigorous preparation. So it is advisable to you that if you have a passion for IPS then start preparing for now & get your 12th class completed with good marks so that in your graduation level you can concentrate not only to your studies but also at your physical fitness too as you have to be physically fit without any problem i.e., like physical disparity or any transmitting disease.
