Eligibility for the oral examinations :

-> Proof of passing the written examination in that function.

-> Completion of appropriate modular courses indicated in that function.

-> Proof of at least six months bridge watchkeeping under the supervision of a
certificated officer. Such watchkeeping may be performed either during the
stipulated sea time or after the Second Mate (FG) WRITTEN examination, at the
candidate's option.

-> Candidates may appear in the ORAL examination in any one, two or three functions
at the same time, at their option.

You need to have 36 months of seatime as a Rating/ Cadet to appear for 2nd.Mates exam in India.Also you need to complete Training & Record book on board.The period of sailing as a Tr.OS may not be counted,but still kindly contact the Mercantile Marine Department in Mumbai for the detailed eligibility for 2nd.Mates exam. If you would have done any Pre-Sea course the duration of seatime would have reduced.

sir, i am a deck cadet, but sailed as an AB in supply vessel for 46 months, and i completed nwko/ncv written exams, now i want to write second mate fg ,i also completed fg function courses, so can u please tell me, how many months more required for me to sail,and my supply vessel experience how much sea service will be counted,and also want to know whether sea service will be counted for demolition voyages, because i sailed in oil tanker and cargo ship as an AB, for 3 months,so please reply sir

sir i am vikash raman has done pre-sea training from maritime education and rearch intitute kolkatta year 2000, have done stcw courses pst, pssr, efa,fpff, sir i had sailed only one time haveing 9 month exp, was working on tanker gross ton 1090, i could not complete my further services as i was not having watchkeeping cert and otf, and dangerious cargo endosment, i was told to complete sea time for 1 year, but unfortunate i couldnt get further employement, had been selfemployed at bussiness my late father was master mariner fg and he wanted me to do bussinesd, i was running my bussines but my destiny took bad turn when my father become ill and suffered from cancer andhe expired, now i and my mum brother sister is depending upon my future destiny, i want to join sea back and go for lifetime services and serve sea and company as my father did. i need help pls advise i have only 9 month sailing, can i continue my sea carrier, have indian cdc, is there any chance for me to complete my sea time and appear for second mate, after completing 3 years services at sea if i get chance in any indian company, need guidences hope u will reply. rank os, ab, vikash raman

If sailing other than fg trading vessel mention gt of your
Ship and route or trade area type of ship
