If you want to get into IITs and NITs through GATE, you should score a good mark like 500-800 in order to get it.

Some of the cutoffs are given below:-

For 2012:-

>>Computer Sc. & IT 31.54(gen) 21.03(OBC) 28.39(SC/ST)

>>Civil Engineering 33.03(gen) 22.02(OBC) 29.73(SC/ST)

>>Electronics & Communication 25 (gen) 16.67(OBC) 22.5(SC/ST)

>>Mechanical Engineering 27.14(gen) 18.09(OBC) 24.42(SC/ST)

If you can get AIR rank 1-500 you are sure to get into one of the PSUs and IITS,NITS.

1.PowerGrid is selecting through GATE 2013 for EE. You can check by 7 Jan - 8 Feb. 12.7 Lakhs PA is the CTC.

This time, the pattern of paper of IIT and NIT is totally changed.

Thus nothing much can be said.

You need to prepare hard. But on the previous basis, one can surely said that inoerder to get a seat in IIT, you need to score good in all the three subjects namely Physics, Chemistry and Maths.

You need to score atleast 200+ for the IIT.

For NIT, competition is much more as the number of tudents appearing in AIEEE is much much more as compared to the no. of students appearing in IIT JEE.

Every year the cutoff marks chanit. Depending upon last year, I Think you need to secure 180+ to secure a seat in NIT.
