As you are in third year of engineering, it is the best time to start preparation for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.

This entrance exam is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology for candidates who want to pursue master's degree in technology from top engineering institutes of India.

The importance of GATE exam is getting increased day by day. Lots of Public Sector Undertakings recruit candidates on the basis of GATE scorecard.

It is 100 marks online test consisting of 65 questions from aptitude and subjects of your core stream engineering.

The questions are conceptual and you need to have strong basic concept of your engineering subjects to crack this exam. Questions are also from Engineering Mathematics which requires decent practice to solve in exam.

So work on fundamentals of your all subjects and practice questions as much as possible, this is the only way to achieve good marks and rank in this exam. You may even join coaching institutes like MADE EASY, GATEFORUM etc if you are not able to self preparation.

If you can do the self preparation then join test series of these institutes to assess your preparation.

Standard books for preparation for Electrical and Electronics Engineering for GATE exam:

1. Electrical Machines by Nagrath and Kothari.

2. Microprocessor by Ramesh Goankar

3. Power systems by Nagrath and Kothari or C.L Wadhwa.

4. Network theory by Van ValkenBurg.

5. Signals and Systems by Oppenheim.

6. Control systems by B.S Manke.

7. Basic Electrical Engineering by Deltoro.
