Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
For GATE I would request you to start your preparations as soon as possible as last minute preparations dont work at all. GATE is not the kind of exam where the rote learning is encouraged. GATE exam tests your conceptual skills and your basic fundamentals. Nothing more complex.
The questions are basically confused version of the basic concepts. There are few stages to prepare for GATE. Like first you must improve your basic concepts. After you have practiced your concepts then you must move over to solving the mock papers. I would suggest you to go for your coaching material first and if you have any difficulties then you can consider for referring the normal books. Choose the right study material which will suit you and dont go by asking your friends as everyone has different tastes. Everything is fine but most important is solving GATE practice papers. Try to get your hand on previous year papers and have a look at the pattern abd how to solve the problem. Also check your speed as its also a deciding factor All the best |

Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
If your a GATE aspirant then you must have grip of the core subjects, suppose your a EEE student then you must have good knowledge about electrical machines, power systems,EMF,circuit analysis.
So you must have a grip over your core subjects from the first year of B.E itself. Refer books of authors like R.K Bansal,Rajput,Katson publications,Pearson publications,Modi & Seth,B.L Thereja,William Haith..etc. all the best |

Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
Dear Saleem
It is good to start your preparation from 3rd year itself and try to write exam this year also hope you have applied for GATE as it will give you a experience about the pattern and your ability to solve it and according to that you start your preparation...... If you are not able to solve previous year paper then better to join institutes....... Remember one thing there is no age limit to write GATE and GATE score are valid for 2years..... so prepare well and try to solve previous year question papers as much as you can..... |

some parameters on which you can decide whether you should go for a particular coaching institute, use a particular coaching material, or tests: 1.Material Collection Syllabus : All the relevant books based on the subject(Divide the books in two groups - (1)Fundamental and basic concepts (2) Problem oriented Some books helpful for pre-requisite knowledge on the subject Some good guide books for GATE Previous questions papers 2.Keep contact with some expert and GATE experienced persons 3.Study - Syllabus and Previous questions papers 4.Start from the first chapter read at least 5 books, it will widen your knowledge(if necessary consult with the books for pre-requisite knowledge or with some expert) Note down the probable concepts(definitions, unit, dimension etc.) Note down necessary theories, formulae etc Solve problems as maximum as possible(from text books, Guide books etc) Think about various tricks in solving problems(if necessary, note it) Go for series of self tests based on this chapter(take other's help to conduct tests) Continue the self tests until getting a very good score 5.Solve more and more problems, discover more and more new tricks… 6.Follow the same procedure for the rest chapters 7.Finally, go for self tests based on whole syllabus(take other's help to conduct these tests) 8.Well, So...... on the exam day…you will be at your best. Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
hi!
GATE is one of the toughest exam in India for admission to MTech. Courses. You must prepare well before appearing in the exam. So, a thorough study of all the topics mentioned in the syllabus is required. Instead of studying specially designed study material you should do a detailed study of recommended books paying more attention to important topics. Try to solve model papers based on latest exam pattern. Analyze result, find out the weak areas & try to overcome those weak areas. Regular practice is the only key to success in any exam. |

Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
it is the right time to start preparation for GATE for you.
i think good books are sufficient for preparing GATE. although the study material provided by good institution also very much helpfull. for this you may take admission in good coaching center like GATEFORUM or BRILLIANT coaching center which are very popular and good enough. now if you want to prepare for GATE by own only studying book then also you may do it. for this first go through the syllabus of the GATE examination. from the syllabus think which portion you have already covered in B.tech carefully. then first try to complete that portion for the GATE first. next give attention to the mathematics portion of the syllabus. generally every year from mathematics 25 marks come in GATE. also it is comparable easy portion of the paper. so try to complete the mathematics syllabus. try to secure at least 15 marks in the examination. then give attention to the aptitude part. 15marks come from this portion. try to secure at least 10 marks from it. if you can secure this much marks as expected then you will qualify GATE. now to make a good rank solve questions from technical portion. this outline only for moderate student. those who are good enough and want to make a good score in GATE they should study the whole syllabus with technical portion more carefully. because maximum marks come from the technical portion. best wishes for the examination. |

Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
It is very hard to get the mark, unless you prepare it very well, because it is fully of problematic , unless you work hard in the following subject.
first you should prepare all the basic formula and then try to solve the problem with that kind of formula, it is very hard to learn, but try to do that, success is your, totally it consists of 65 question , you need to get more 75 percent , daily work for 2 to 3 hours per day, you can clear the exam easily, best of luck |

Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
No need to worry as you have 2 attempts during your BE/BTech. For electronics student you should start in the gives order:
Network analysis and sysnthesis by using Hayt, Shaum Series. Electronics:By JB gupta and Halkiyas Digital Electronics:Moris Manno Control system:Nagrath Goapal, Kuo Communication: BP Lathi, Taub Schilling Electromagnetic Theory: William Hayt Digital Signal Processing Antenna Microwave engineering Communicatoin network VLSI TV and Radar Aptitude.[/QUOTE] __________________________________________________ __________________ Hey is there any such criteria that B.E. students can't give more than 3 attempts to qualify GATE? If they don't clear in previous 3 attempts they are not allowed for a next attempt? Is this true? |

Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
I would suggest you to start preparation for the GATE exam from now itself.
It will be one of the toughest exam in India. So, candidates need to have good preparation prior to the exam in order to crack the exam. As a part of beginning the preparation, first try to be perfect with all the fundamentals and try to finish the subjects which you feel easy as early as possible. Have a look over the previous year papers for GATE exam. Simultaneously, practice the habit of going through the GATE questions and answers books soon after the completion of preparation for a particular unit. |

Re: How to start preparation for GATE exam?
GATE is an All India Entrance exam for students who wish to do M.Tech.
The GATE score card is valid for 2 years. And there is no age limit for this exam and there is also no limit for the no. of attempts. Your stream is Electronics and Communication (ECE)...In GATE, books are available topic wise. You will not get a book which covers the whole subject except the GATE Solved Paper of your stream. To cover the whole topic of the exam, you have to read books of various authors on various topics. You will get the list of best books of your subject here! It is advisable that you take a coaching for GATE to crack it in first attempt. But if you don't want to take any, then you have to work very very hard for that. You should have a very strong base of the subject...a clear idea of all topics...study for atleast 18 hours a day for the exam. And be confident. Take online study materials for getting the pattern, follow previous years solved papers... You will get them here! Follow the standard books...don't try to read those books which is not popular for GATE. Prepare notes chapter wise...while studying, don't leave any doubt, clear your doubts anyhow! These are some tips for self study, if you don't have or don't want any coaching....the rest is up to you. Be confident and dedicated! |
