I am a mech engg student doing 6th sem.
I am planing to join merchant navy as an engineer after my course completion.
i would like to know the admission procedure to join 1year pre sea training course for mech graduates
as there any entrance exam held for this course

U can approach these colleges,so that u can get exact information

(i) Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies & Research, Hay Bunder, Tank Road Mumbai-400033.

today marine engineering is one of the most lucrative profession.

since,You have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering you could join the Merchant navy as a Engine Cadet/ Fifth Engineer/ Junior Engineer directly.

you have to go for a Pre-sea course of 9 months duration in Marine Engineering conducted by the recruiting company itself.

under training you will recieve anything between 20,000-40,000 as a salary.

you can take admission either in ts chanakya, Mumbai or marine engineering training and research in Mumbai or kolkata

engineers can directly apply for merchant navy......you just have to appear for a exam and an interview and then there will be a course for 2 -3 months and then you will be on a ship..........

there are several companies like

MERSK
ANGLO-EASTERN
NAMAC,etc

where you can easily join as an engineer by writing a simple exam followed by 2-3 months of training.

but i will suggest you to go for:
Marine Engineering & Research Institute (MERI), Mumbai.

this is a govt. institute offering 1 year course for Graduate Mechanical Engineers.

all you have to do is give an exam and pass te interview and the medical exam and go for merchant navy as an engineer.

Admission to Merchant Navy Courses in India is conducted through IIT- JEE. The two areas where training is given to students enrolling in these courses are Marine Engineering and Navigation Science. One common eligibility criteria for merchant navy officers in both the fields is medical fitness.


The courses and their details are as follows -
•B.E Marine Engineering, Duration: 4 years; Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English
•B.S.C Nautical Science, Duration: 3 years, Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English
•M.E Marine Engineering, Duration: 2 years, Eligibility: B.E Marine Engineering.

There is no need of computer engineers in merchant navy,you have to persue any other post graduate course specially for navy in order to join merchant Navy.

You can join it after 1 year course in pre-sea training,or M.sc.(nautical science) or after persuing MBA in hotel management,hospitality management etc.

for joining merchant navy you should have passed 12th standard with minimum of 60% .
then there are forms available .

yes you can join merchant navy as Engine Cadet, Fifth Engineer, Junior Engineer but it will be better if you go for sea course of 9 months in marine colleges like

u can go for MERI a good college and ther are also good clleges in coimbatore u can use google for more info.... al d best....

The eligibility criteria for courses in Marine engineering is 10+2 or an equivalent examination with PCM as the beckground subjects .

He should also pass a medical fitness test for sea service under standard norms and with eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness.

it is fully possible.
there are lots ,the best are marine engg. as well architecture.
there is nothing specific,you can fill forms,if you are from any branch.

The pre-sea training is conducted by MERI (Marine Engineering & Research Institute) Mumbai. The Duration of this course is 1 year. After successful completion of the pre-sea training, as a mechanical graduate, you will be eligible to join Merchant Navy as Engine cadet/Junior engineer.
The advertisement for this course will be published in Employment News and other leading news papers in the month of November.

you can join in indian navy in two ways.

1.through UES. which exam you can appear in the final year of your btech.

2.through UPSC exam. which exam you can appear after doing your btech.

minimum 60% marks in engineering is required to join in Merchant navy as an engineer.
