IAS is one of the most prestigious jobs in the Indian civil service. The exam is carried out every year by the UPSC. As to clear in the IAS exam, a candidate needs to have sheer determination and a mind frame to work hard as to pass in each of the exams. The UPSC will notify the commencement of application procedure in leading newspapers. In 2011 the application will be available for sale from 19.2.2011. The last date of application will be on 21.3.2011. The preliminary exam will be carried out on 12.6.2011. Please visit the official website for more information.

date of notification for cs prelim is 19-2-2011
last date for receipt of application form is 21-2-2011
date of examination is 12-6-2011
you need to work hard on gs,and now also on general reasoning and aptitude along with english comprehension for prelims and as well as for mains exam aslo other than your optional subjects for mains exam.

as far as study material of general studies is concerned ,one of the best book for preparation is the Pearson editions general studies manual,costing about rs.1000,
for political science it would be better to take coaching,and follow the materials of the institute,
as far as the books are concerned there are many books for separate subjects,
some of them are
s.p verma:modern political theory
j.c.jauhary:comparative politics
v.p verma:indian political theory

Date of Notification: 19.02.2011.

Last Date for Receipt of Applications: 21.03.2011.

Date of Exam: 12.06.2011.

study the general knowledge books and aptitude,logical books also.

And current events are important.And strong your subject.there is

a various books available for ias exam.And see the previous papers

also.prepare very hard.don't prepare last minute.

The notification for the first phase of Civil services exam called CSAT(Civil Services Aptitude Test) has not been issued yet. It is expected to be issued in the month of february.

The tentative dates of the exam is as follows:
The date of notification will be on: 19.02.2011
The last date for receipt of CSAT applications is on: 21.03.2011 (MONDAY)
The date of commencement of CSAT exam is: 12.06.2011 (SUNDAY)

The examination structure of CSAT comprises of one paper consisting of questions from general studies and the other paper focusing on the aptitude skills of the students.

So you must focus on improving your aptitude skill & General awareness. Read newspaper daily. Also try to solve model aptitude paper.

Important dates for CIVILS

In Jan you will be getting notification.

In June you will have CSAT(preliminary)

In Sept you will have your MAINS

In dec or jan you will be called for interview.

In march you will get result.

In April June you will be called for training ..

after training you will get placed according to your cadre...

its a total 1 and half year examination.

It doesn't have any particular dates like GATE or BITSAT

Months are only approximation..

they may be subject to change..

coming to preparation...

I Suggest you to take Coaching in good Institute ..because don't take any chance ..
